The “Go Beyond” Books – Store

What is going beyond?

Most attractions in the natural world are surrounded by wonderful landscapes. Many are within national parks or preserves. In the United States, National Parks and Monuments protect world renowned sites. Each park has a few main attractions that draw the public in; Yosemite NP has Half Dome and Yellowstone NP has Old Faithful just to name two. Many of these national treasures are intensely visited and publicized. Going beyond these main sites is the focus of the books offered here. Through exploration the areas around these main wonders I’ve been able to put together a photographic map of the area as a whole. This puts the main attraction in perspective against the backdrop of the supporting countryside that make the whole area unique and worth the visit.  Every national park and monument has the potential to wow the explorer in secret places reserved for those who are willing to search  a little harder.

The Go Beyond Books is a series of books celebrating not only the main attraction but, also that of the supporting formations and features that paint the whole picture of why a particular place has been set aside for future generations to come.

My books present the subject area with single full page images and multiple photos in mosaics of wonder and interest.  The adage “a picture is worth a thousand words” applies to my books. Very little text is contained in my books except for a couple of pages at the beginning of each book telling a little about the area presented within the books. Also some pages have a short descriptive comment or wonderful quotes from some of our greatest writers, naturalists, and poets such as John Muir and Ralph Waldo Emerson.   Peek inside by clicking on the book covers below!

In recent years these main attractions have had such an increase in visitors that the National Park Service is desperate to find ways to deal with the over loading of trails and roads, and the negative effects of such high numbers. It is a complex and difficult problem. Finding solitude at these attractions is becoming a thing of the past. While everyone should take the chance to see the main attraction at least once, more effort should be used to see the stunning areas around these attractions. Here one will find the solitude that make the visit all the more rewarding.

However, in the vast acres that surround these high profile sights are the lesser known marvels that in their own right merit attention and discovery. It is the collective whole of an area that makes it worthy of being a national monument or park. Many local people can help you find the less traveled and crowded areas and make you trip a memorable one. Seek them out.

The more I visit the natural world around me the more I see the overlooked corners of wildernesses of both forested mountains and open deserts. These areas intrigue me and leads to more exploration and discovery.  Above are books that are now available or are nearing completion and a list of others are hiding in the wings. Books introducing the hidden reaches of Zions, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon and Arches National Parks are among those not listed but are in the works.

Celebrating not only the large and expansive National Parks and Monuments but also the very small intricate formations all created by the wonderful forces of nature take me to places either seldom visited and totally unknown in most cases. Watch for my blog that will explore some of these unknown wonders.
